The story behind Lucky Tiles

We’re Emily, Ryan, and Annie, the trio behind Lucky Tiles ✨

Our journey began during Annie’s first trip to Vietnam ✈️, when Ryan’s mum taught us how to play 🀄 From the first game, we realised it was about more than the tiles, it was about the fun and the space it created. Around the table, conversations flowed, stories were shared, and it was a way for us to reconnect with each other, family, and with our culture.

Back in New Zealand, we introduced mahjong to our friends, and it quickly became a regular ritual. Everyone loved it and we realised we weren’t the only ones craving more meaningful ways to connect. With Emily supporting from Vietnam, we hosted our first public event during the Mid-Autumn Festival 🏮- not only did our friends come together, we also had strangers too!

We began hosting weekly meetups, growing a vibrant, welcoming community where strangers become friends, and culture is celebrated in every day moments. Some of our first players are now close friends, and we’ve even taught the HK points mahjong back to our own families.

We love creating spaces where people can slow down, share stories, and feel at home.

Lucky Tiles is all about connection: between friends, family, and culture - We’d love for you to join us ✨
